Last Friday was the last of the free concerts in DWTWN's summer concert series, featuring The Wailers and highlighting the local favorite Jahfé at the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center. The four concerts this season were provided thanks to the Miami Downtown Development Authority and the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation.
Jahfé is a local reggae band that recently came off tour from Europe. They distinguish themselves as the only band with a lead female vocalist. They were all the rage in Europe as they played the longest live set: over two hours. Last Friday's performance was electrifying as they allowed the crowd to interact and be part of the live performance. The highlight of the night was to see The Wailers, new and original band members including Aston Barrett on bass, who's been with the band for over forty years. At times the singer's mic would cut off (perhaps from overheating the audio equipment). However, the crowed didn't miss a beat and filled in any voids of the audio.
My personal favorites were: "Is this love" and "Could you be loved". if you missed the series of concerts, don't fret (no pun intended)... more concerts to come in the fall, stay tuned with the Downtown Development Authority.

With Lucinda Linderman, a local artist who created this beautiful piece out of trash floating in our bay. I can say this was my favorite piece. Her website: http://upcycledobject.com/Home.html
